Safe animal handling and proper pet care were the topic of discussion this week for our unit on "domestic pets". Our friends at the Valley Animal Center visited our centers and accepted some tour groups to show the children what happens when pets overpopulate. The lesson included an activity that had the children match up objects that are necessities when adding a pet to your household, like food, water, a leash, and shelter. The children also learned when and how to safely approach a dog, a very important lesson, especially for young children.
